Gustavus Adolphus

Swedish language has been taught at Gustavus since the college
was founded in 1862. Today, in addition to having multi-level instruction
in Swedish,the Department of Scandinavian Studies offers courses
in English on Nordic literature, Nordic cinema, Nordic history -
including emigration/immigration history - and interdisciplinary
courses on Nordic culture - including Sami studies. Gustavus also
has exchange programs with Swedish institutions and assists students
in finding study programs in all the other Nordic countries as well.
An annual Scandinavian artist-in-residence program brings internationally
recognized Nordic writers and artists to campus.

Swedish language instruction from beginning to
advanced levels and courses in Viking mythology,
the Icelandic sagas, Swedish film, and various

English. Old Norse is offered at the graduate
