ConcordiaInteriorFriday, September 15:

• 6pm - Registration and setup for "Cover the Walls and Tech Solutions Expo" Student, faculty, staff, and theatre professionals- SHOW US YOUR DESIGN WORK! Open invitation to exhibit work and share with fellow artists! Top student presentations will be awarded a complimentary registration to the USITT National Conference in March. Location: Theatre Lobby.

• 7:30pm -Theatre Performance   Why Torture is Wrong, and the People Who Love Them  "Christopher Durang turns political humor upside down with this raucous and provocative satire about America's growing homeland 'insecurity".   Performed in the Andreas Theatre in the Performing Arts Center. Reserve your tickets online or purchase at the ticket office in advance of the performance time.

• 9:30pm - Northern Boundary Reception. Reception/social gathering – Food & beverages provided!

Lighting – 
Programming Strategies for Moving Lights - Presented by Steven Smith.
Session Description: This session will outline and demonstrate tips and tricks on how to program intelligent lights that you can use whether you have one or one hundred moving lights. Session Location: Ted Paul Theatre -Mainstage.




Scenic -What? Hearing Protection and Noise Exposure in the Scene Shop  Session Description: This presentation will share results of tests that measured the noise levels of common tools and procedures in the scene shop. It will also make recommendations for PPE that should be used based on the results.  It will also cover OSHA standards for noise and apply them to a theatrical setting. Presented by: Matt Gilbertson. Session Location: PA 105

Career Development -Brush up your Resume!- Presented by: Ellen Baker, Production Manager, CTC. Session Description: Resumes and Cover Letters for Theater Technicians and Designers - A detailed seminar on how to structure a resume when applying for a job in technical theater. Theater resumes are different in format and elements from an acting or business resume. The seminar covers styles, format, order, what to include and exclude, and how to write a cover letter. Session location: PA 106.

Production Demo and Talkback- Design and Directing Choices for Why Torture is Wrong, and the People Who Love Them. Presented by: MSUM Production Staff. Location: Andreas Theatre

Career Development -Digital Portfolios- Presented by: Sarah Bahr. Session Description: Explore the possibilities of creating a digital portfolio using online platforms such as Wix, Square Space, Wordpress, and more. Sarah Bahr will showcase a variety of theatre artist websites, including designers, technicians, directors, and stage managers. She will guide you through how to create your own online presence along with tips on how to utilize your website to network, interview, and collaborate. Session Location: PA 106

Technology and AV- A-V Design in Campus Event Spaces. Presented by: MSUM Staff. Session Description: Overview of Technology - LED’s, lighting, sound and projection in the Centennial ballroom and Austrander theatre. Location: Meet in the Ted Paul Theatre Lobby to begin the tour.

Stage Make-up- Designing, Building and Styling Theatrical Wigs. Presented by: Andrea Moriarity. Session Description: Lecture/demonstration on wig designing, building & styling - the process from beginning to end. Demonstration on how to ventilate, and/or roller setting and comb out techniques for period hairstyling. Session Location: PA 122 (Dressing Room in the Green Room)

Scenic -Scenic Automation.
 Presented by George Grubb. Session Description: This will cover the essential skills for setting up a scenic automation system. Installation, networking, setting limits and testing the system. Basic system design will also be addressed. Session Location: PA 181 Bock Scene Shop

Make-upMake-up Effects with Skin-Tite and Silicone Pigments Presented by Bill Wallace.
Session Description: A hands-on session building makeup effects with Skin-Tite and silicone pigments. Session location: PA 122 (Dressing Room in the Green Room).

Career Development –World of Freelancing - 
Presented by Katie Phillips, Jordan Green, Jeff Geisler and Barb Portinga. Session Description: Multi-discipline roundtable discussion regarding the world of freelancing – presenters from costume, scenic, props, sound & lighting talk about experiences with types of theatres, contracts, compensation, taxes, relationships, etc. Session Location: PA 106.

SoundAdaptive Audio: What The Performing Arts and Video Games Can Learn From Each Other- Presented by Benji Inniger.
Session Description: Theatre and video games a have a lot to offer audiences such as the use of adaptive audio and music. Video games have many strengths that could benefit theatre audiences and vice versa. This session will explore audio design and music composition strategies that can capitalize on the strengths of each of these art forms to create compelling and immersive audio design. Session location: PA 105.

LightingArchitectural Lighting Presented by: Todd Reemtsma. Session Description: Trends regarding architectural lighting in theatres and career opportunities for theatrical lighting designers. Session Location: PA 240 Design Studio

Management & PlanningNBS Strategic Planning Committee Open Meeting - Presented by: Corey Shelsta & Todd Reemtsma. Session Description: Strategic planning for NBS – where are we going, who are we, what we want to become – discussions concerning expanding membership ideas and programming ideas for the future. Anyone who is interested in strategic planning and has ideas to share is encouraged to attend. Session location: PA 105.

SoundLive vocal Reinforcement Demo- Presented by: Jeff Geisler
Session Description: Live demonstration of sound mixing for theatre. Tips and tricks for Mic setup, EQing, balancing, etc. This session will help you get the best results when mixing your next show! Session location: Ted Paul Theatre -Mainstage.

Projections & MediaProjection mapping using Madmapper and Qlab- Presented by: Todd Edwards
Session Description: Demo/hands on session exploring intricate mapping to surfaces, 3d scanning of scenery and surfaces and large scale projection mapping (i.e. mapping to buildings or large architectural surfaces). For those wanting to participate "hands on" in this session, please bring a Mac laptop. If you have cables and connectors to attach your laptop to an external display (projector), please bring these as well. Todd will have some cable adaptors and will bring some projectors with him.   Session location: PA 240 Design Studio.

Costume– Making a Life Mask- Presented by: David McCarl
Session Description: Making a Life Mask. Session location: PA 122 (Dressing Room in the Green Room).

Career Development Portfolio Review- Presented by Alicia Wold,
Ellen Baker and Billy Wilburn. Session Description: Open session – students & young professionals bring your portfolio, sample resume & cover letter for professional review/response. Session Location: PA 106

• 4:30-4:45pm - Wrap-up Meeting
- Short meeting and send off! Student Scholarship winners for March 2018 National Conference Registration announced. Location: Ted Paul Theatre.
