Hank joined the Piper Center early in 2025 as an Alumni Career Coach. Although he currently lives near Columbus, Ohio, he has deep ties to Minnesota and St. Olaf. He and his family lived in Plymouth, Minnesota for many years while he worked at General Mills. During that time, both of his sons attended the St. Olaf Summer Music Academy.

Hank often describes his career as having three distinct stages. The first stage, spanning 14 years, included teaching history and math at two Massachusetts boarding schools, working in undergraduate admissions at Union College (New York), and serving as Director of MBA Admissions at Dartmouth College's Tuck School of Business.

In 1996, Hank made a pivotal career change when he joined General Mills as a human resources professional. Over the next 20 years, he supported multiple business units in the US and Canada as well as a range of functions including: marketing, sales, finance, legal, and communications.

Hank returned to higher education in 2017 as Executive Director for the Career Center at Denison University (Ohio). His five years there reintroduced him to the current trends and issues in the employment marketplace, as well as the challenges and opportunities unique to liberal arts students and graduates.

In addition to his work at St. Olaf, Hank serves as an executive consultant with Navigate Forward, a Minneapolis-based career transition firm, and has launched his own career coaching company focused on clients in early to mid-careers.

Hank holds a bachelors’s degree in History from Dartmouth College and a master’s degree in education administration from Harvard University.

In his role at St. Olaf, Hank works with alumni as they explore new career options and develop plans to make a professional change.
