Connecting to the Shared Folders using Windows Vista

Follow the instructions below for connecting to the shared folders. These folders are used by many campus offices and some student organizations.

Unless you know for sure that you need to connect to a shared folder, you don't need to make this connection. This should only need to be done once and then your computer will reconnect to the shared folders each time it starts up.

  1. Click on the Start menu and choose Computer.

  2. In the top button bar, click on Map Network Drive.

    If the window is small, the button may be hidden under the >> (see below).

  3. In the Map Network Drive window that appears, enter the following:
    Drive: S:
    Folder: \\shared.stolaf.edu\shared_w

    Check the Reconnect at logon box.

  4. Then click on Finish.

  5. You will be prompted for your username and password. Enter your St. Olaf username and password, check the Remember my password box and click OK.

  6. When you return to the Computer window, you will now have the Shared/S: drive and access to the appropriate folders.
