Enabling SSL for Email Readers
Information sent over the St. Olaf wireless network is not secure and is not automatically encrypted. We do not recommend using the wireless network for financial transactions or for items of a personal or confidential nature. More information about security.
If you would like to use the wireless network for checking your email, we recommend using https://email.stolaf.edu (which encrypts by default for wireless connections) or setting your Email reader to communicate using a secure connection (SSL). To set your Email reader:
- In Thunderbird, go to Tools -> Account Settings, then click "Server Settings". Check the box marked "Use secure connection (SSL)".
- In Mac Mail, select "Mail -> Preferences". The click on the "Accounts" button, select "Advanced" and then check the "Use SSL" checkbox.
