Configuring a Login Window Profile for the St. Olaf Wireless Network
Follow these instructions to connect a college-owned Macintosh OS X computer to the St. Olaf wireless network. To connect a student-owned Macintosh computer to the St. Olaf wireless network, please see these instructions.
- Make sure that the wireless card is turned on by clicking the AirPort icon in the menu and clicking Turn AirPort On.

- Choose Apple > System Preferences > Network.
- If necessary, click the lock in the lower left corner to make changes; enter an admin username and password when prompted.
- From the Location pop-up menu select Edit Locations.
- Click Add (+) at the bottom of the Locations list, and create a new Location. Name it "St. Olaf" and click Done.

- Select AirPort from the network connection list and click Advanced.
- Click the 802.1X tab.
- If there are any existing 802.1x profiles, delete them by clicking Delete (-) at the bottom of the profiles list.
- Click Add (+) at the bottom of the profiles list, and click Add Login Window profile. Name the new profile "St. Olaf".

- Leave the User Name or Password blank. (You will be asked for the User Name and Password during the initial connection to the server when you click Apply, and it will not be used again after that.)
- Select the "St. Olaf" wireless network from the Wireless Network pop-up menu.

- Click OK to save the profile.
- Click Apply to save the 802.1x configuration.
- You may be prompted to trust a certificate from the server; click Continue.

- When prompted, enter an admin username and password to save the certificate information.
- When prompted to authenticate to the St. Olaf network, enter your username and password and click OK.

Troubleshooting
The most common cause of problems is an incomplete configuration. If you are unable to connect to the St. Olaf wireless network after performing the above steps, follow the procedure below to remove the 802.1x configuration and then use the procedure above to connect to the St. Olaf wireless network.
Removing the 802.1x Configuration
- Choose Apple > System Preferences > Network.
- Click AirPort and click Advanced.
- In the Preferred Networks list, click on "St. Olaf" and click Delete (-).
- Click the 802.1X tab.
- Remove all of the profiles from the list by clicking on each one and clicking Delete (-).
- Click OK.
- Click Apply.
- Click Applications > Utilities > Keychain Access.
- Under Keychains, click login. Under Category, click Certificates.
- Click the certificate for MAK.ad.stolaf.ed (if it exists), click the Edit menu and click Delete.
- Under Keychains, click System. Under Category, click Certificates.
- Click the certificate for MAK.ad.stolaf.ed (if it exists), click the Edit menu and click Delete.
- Under Category, click Passwords.
- Click the saved password for "WPA: St. Olaf" (if it exists) and then click the Edit menu and click Delete.
