Warning
Information sent over our wireless network is not secure and is not automatically encrypted. We do not recommend using the wireless network for financial transactions or for items of a personal or confidential nature.
Services
The following services are supported on our wireless network:
- Web browsing
- Access to the central Novell servers (shared, stuhome, fshome, classes, prime).
- Printing
- E-mail (must be configured for secure IMAP rather than standard IMAP, see Enabling SSL for Email Readers)
- SSH and related services
- FTP via SSH, e.g., http://winscp.sourceforge.net/eng/ (Windows) or http://www.rbrowser.com/ (Mac)
POP-based email and FTP-based file-transfers are not available because they transmit passwords in clear-text.
Policy
Only St. Olaf-owned and managed wireless access points (WAPs) are allowed on campus. We will disconnect any other access points or other wireless network-sharing device we discover on our campus. For more information, please see: http://www.stolaf.edu/services/iit/policies/access_points.html
