Installing SPSS for Windows
St. Olaf's site license allows SPSS 18 to be installed on college-owned computers. There are two types of installations: one for laptop users who need to use SPSS while disconnected from the St. Olaf network, and one for desktops.
To install SPSS 18 on a Windows desktop (network license installation)
This network license installation uses a license server on St. Olaf's network. Therefore, to use SPSS 18, your computer needs to be connected to the St. Olaf network.
- Launch the installer located at I:\SPSS18\Windows\setup.exe.
- Click "Install PASW Statistics 18".
- Choose "Network license" and click Next.
- Click Next again.
- For the License Manager name, enter "trak.stolaf.edu" and click Set. Click Next.
- Click Next two more times to accept installation defaults.
- Click Install to begin the installation.
- When the installation is complete click Finish. SPSS 18 is now ready to use.
To install SPSS 18 on a Windows laptop (site license installation)
Before starting the SPSS installation, you will need to obtain an activation code. Contact the IT Helpdesk (ext. 3830, helpdesk@stolaf.edu) and ask for the SPSS 18 for Windows activation code. Your computer will need to be connected to the Internet to complete the activation process.
- Launch the installer located at I:\SPSS18\Windows\setup.exe.
- Click "Install PASW Statistics 18".
- Choose "Site license" and click Next.
- Accept the terms of the license agreement and click Next.
- Click Next 4 more times to accept installation defaults.
- Click Install to begin the installation.
- When the installation is complete, click OK to begin the authorization process.
- Select License my product now and click Next.
- Enter the activation code obtained from the IT Helpdesk and click Next. After a few moments, you should see a message that the activation process succeeded.
- Click Next and Finish to complete the activation process. SPSS 18 is now ready to use.
