Classification Study

In 2001, St. Olaf hired Stan McKnight & Associates, Inc., for a study intended to provide recommendations for improvements to the overall classification/compensation program of exempt and non-exempt staff at St. Olaf College. The five phases of the study are as follows:

  1. To provide an operational review of the effectiveness of the current classification and compensation system, including the expectations of departments and employees.
  2. To provide a market study of benchmark staff jobs and identification of internal salary compression problems.
  3. To provide specific recommendations for improvements to the existing compensation and classification program while continuing as much of the present structure as possible.
  4. To provide implementation of specific recommendations for a new classification and compensation system.
  5. Follow-on support and review after implementation.

Phase I of that study was completed in May 2001. That report is available here .
