POSTINGS

Schedules for the league will be posted on the bulletin boards located right next to P E / Athletics Office in Skoglund.

 

1.        EQUIPMENT

A.      Team captains or representatives may check out tennis balls with a valid College ID from the equipment room.  The supervisor will supply the balls and a few tennis rackets for the matches.  It is suggested that you provide your own racket for matches.

 

2.        PLAYERS

A.      A player may play on only one doubles team.  Players must have a valid St. Olaf ID to be listed on the roster.  Doubles players must play in one (1) regular season match to be eligible to play in the playoffs.

  1. Any player that is bleeding must leave the match immediately.  The bleeding must be stopped and bandaged before the player can continue.  If there is blood on their clothing, it must be removed before resuming play. 
  2. In doubles, free substitution is permitted between sets; except in the case of an injury.  Singles players may not substitute players.
  3. Adding to your Roster:  In order to add or delete players to or from your roster you MUST fill out an ADD/DELETE form and return it to the Intramural Sports Office NO LATER than the day before your scheduled contest.

 

3.        THE GAME and Rules

A.      All USTA rules will apply.

B.       You will play one pro set to 8 games, win by 2.

C.       If the match is tied 8-8, play continues with a 7-point tie-breaker, win by 2.  The time limit for your match will be 1 hr. 15 min., however, there will be NO time limit for any matches in the playoffs.

D.      Rules for the 7-point tie breaker:

1.        Singles: “A” serves 1st point from right court; “B” serves points 2 and 3 (left and right); “A” serves points 4 and 5 (left and right); “B” serves point 6 (left); players switch sides, “B” serves point 7 (right); “A” serves points 8 and 9 (Left and right); “B” serves points 10 and 11 (left and right); “A” serves point 12 (left).  Repeat rotation.

2.        Doubles:  Follow same pattern, assuming “A & B” vs. “C & D”. “A” serves 1st point from right court; “C” serves points 2 and 3 (left and right); “B” serves points 4 and 5 (left and right); “D” serves point 6 (left); players switch sides, “B” serves point 7 (right); “A” serves points 8 and 9 (Left and right); “C” serves points 10 and 11 (left and right); “B” serves point 12 (left).  Repeat rotation.

  1. Players will switch court sides when combined match score is equal to or multiples of 6.  Match will end when one player reaches 7 points, winning by two.
  2. A coin flip or odd/even call at the start of the first and third game will determine choice of serve and court side. 
  3. Players will have 15 minutes from the scheduled start time to warm-up.  If you are late, then your warm-up is shortened.  Players have fifteen minutes after scheduled start time to begin play, if they are missing players the game will be forfeited.
  4. 1st Forfeit: $5 re-entry fee, which must be paid within 24 hours of the forfeit (your responsibility).

2nd forfeit:  Team is automatically DROPPED from the league!

  1. Teams are allowed one (1) time-out per match of 1 minute in length.
  2. Matches are played in Skoglund Fieldhouse or Tostrud Fieldhouse.
