KICKBALL RULES
**Current A.S.A. Softball Rules will govern kickball with the following emphases and modifications:
POSTINGS
Schedules for the league will be posted on the bulletin boards located right next to P E / Athletics Office in Skoglund and on the web at www.stolaf.edu/athletics/intramural.html.
A. POINTS OF INTEREST
1. Kickballs will be provided by the equipment room.
2. A team consists of eight players, 4 of each gender. A minimum of six is needed to start and continue a game.
3. Games are 7 innings or 50 minutes. Kickball is played in the Tostrud Fieldhouse. All players must play in at least 1 regular season game to be eligible for the playoffs.
4. Each team gets 3 outs per inning. Kickers must remain in same kicking order throughout game. Teams must kick male/female or female/male.
5. The batter is out in situations similar to softball (forceouts, popouts, etc.). In addition, a runner is out when he/she is hit by a thrown ball below the waist. (If a player dives or slides on the floor and his hit, he/she is out!)
6. The ball is put in play when the pitcher (a player on the defensive team) rolls the ball toward home plate and the batter attempts to kick the ball. The batter must wait for the ball to be within three feet of home plate before kicking the ball. If the batter does not like the pitch, he/she should not attempt to kick it and another pitch will be thrown. There are no strikeouts or walks. A batter gets only one attempt at kicking the ball. A missed attempt is an out. Each kicker will be allowed 1 courtesy foul each time he/she is up to bat.
7. A runner who leaves the base before the pitch reaches home plate or is kicked, is out and the ball is dead. Leading off and stealing bases between pitches is not allowed.
8. NO runners may advance once the pitcher has control of the ball ON THE PITCHER?S MOUND.
9. Mercy rule occurs when one team is ahead by 15 or more runs after 5 innings.
10. If the ball is kicked off the ceiling in FAIR territory, it is a FAIR ball no matter where it lands.
11. In order to prevent injury and protect the defensive player attempting to make a play on a base runner, the base runner must be called out, if he/she remains on his/her feet, and deliberately, with great force crashes into a defensive player holding the ball, waiting to apply a tag. If the act is determined to be flagrant, the offender shall also be ejected.
12. Each team may bat up 10 batters. Any eight players may play defense. Teams must have at least 4 females playing defense at all times. You must always have the same amount of males and females OR more females than males but never more males than females. A female may only substitute for a female, a male for a male.
13. Bunting will not be permitted and is a dead ball and an automatic out. This is a judgment call.
14. For the playoffs, if the score is tied at the end of the 7th inning, as many extra innings as needed will be played to determine the winner.
B. GENERAL
1. Shoes must be worn by all players. No metal, hard plastic, or polyurethane spikes or shoes with detachable cleats are allowed.
2. Bases are 60 feet apart and the pitcher?s rubber is 36 feet from home plate.
3. There is a 5 minute forfeit time; teams should report to the scorekeeper before the starting time of the game to fill out the score sheet and for the coin flip.
4. 1st FORFEIT: Team warning.
2nd FORFEIT: Team is automatically out of the league.
5. The manager or team representative must list the kicking order prior to the start of the game.
6. A current St. Olaf I.D. card must be presented to the Supervisor before each game.
7. A coin flip will determine the choice of home and visiting teams. Be ready to kick in proper order. Teams should hustle in and out between innings, as there is a time limit in effect (except semifinal and final games).
8. First and last names must be legibly printed on the scorecard (no nicknames please).
9. A game will consist of 7 innings, however, no new inning may begin after 45 minutes has elapsed. In the event of a tie game the team that was ahead in the last inning with a different score wins.
10. Each player must participate in at least 1 regular season game to be eligible to participate in the playoffs.
11. You must add players ONE DAY before you want them to play.
