Clinics for departments and programs developing intended learning outcomes statements
Updated 1/21/08
The Office of Institutional Research and Evaluation and the Assessment Subcommittee of the faculty Curriculum Committee are co-hosting a “clinic” for departments and programs to support the development of “mission-driven, meaningful, manageable, and measurable” statements of intended learning outcomes. The clinic will be offered twice, with refreshments provided at both sessions.
Thursday, January 17, 3.15 – 4.30 pm in BC 142
Thursday, February 28, 3.45 – 4.45 pm in BC 142
All faculty, particularly those assuming leadership in their departments or programs for the intended learning outcomes development process, are cordially invited. The agenda is as follows:
- Assumptions about the student learning benefits of articulating intended learning outcomes
- Strategies for developing intended learning outcomes statements that achieve these benefits
- Consultation and collaboration with individual departments
Because the majority of time will be devoted to drafting or refining departmental statements (and to make sure we have sufficient provisions!), please RSVP to ea-staff@stolaf.edu by Monday, January 14 (for the January 17 clinic) or Monday, February 25 (for the February 28 clinic) with the following information:
- Your name and department/program
- A current draft of the list of intended learning outcomes for majors and/or concentrators in your department or program, OR a list of the general areas of knowledge, proficiency, or ability you expect to address in your final statement. You are encouraged, though not required, to use the form developed by IR&E for this purpose. These draft statements will be compiled and distributed for discussion at the clinic.
