When I applied to work at summer camp last april, I had no idea what type of influence it was going to have on the way that I look at the world and the people that I communicate with. I had no idea that I could come away crying because I felt such a connection to a place, to a group, and most importantly to the mission that is Camp EWALU.

After three months of working at EWALU, I have learned what it means to be an active participant in something so much bigger than myself. EWALU prides itself on being a place apart where people can walk with God. It fulfills its dream exponentially, and also prepares children for the
world outside of its wooded borders. And it has prepared me as well. As I now travel around the Middle East, I have the experiences and the strengh I gained this summer to carry me through.

While many things added to my summer experience, the three most important were the place, the fellowship, and the kids. I have always been a nature person, but walkig, sleeping, and cooking under the stars gives me a whole new appreciation for the natural world. My fellow counselors were the most supporive people that I have ever worked with. I have never felt so much strength and fellowship from a group of people that I have just met. Also, realing that there are many ways to express and practice faith
has open my eyes to many new ways of looking at my own faith and spirituality. And the kids. They are the reason why I went and in the end, they are what I leave with. If they learned half as much from me as I learned from them, I would be proud of what I accomplished.

Though I can already see changes that this past summer at EWALU has caused in me, I am perfectly aware that the long term changes are yet to be realized. The camp experience is one I believe every college student should experience and I for one am glad that I had the oppurtunity to do so.
