Digital Humanities on the Hill is an ambitious four-year project to explore and develop the digital humanities at St. Olaf College. The project, which runs through mid-2018, is funded by a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. With the help of this grant, the college has been able to substantially increase the activity around digital humanities, and has developed resources and expertise which will serve the college across all disciplines well into the future.
The project provides St. Olaf faculty in the humanities and related fields with tools to explore new ways of teaching and new lines of inquiry for their research. Digital Humanities on the Hill also enables students to learn digital research methodologies relevant to careers in the humanities and humanistic social sciences.
The Mellon Foundation grant provides substantial support for faculty development in the digital humanities. The grant also provides opportunities for St. Olaf students to work as digital humanities interns or participate in mentored undergraduate research. An instructional technology specialist and a faculty director assist both faculty and students in achieving the project’s goals.
