Born and raised in Iowa, Trina Smith moved to Lincoln, NE where she received her BA in Sociology and Psychology. After receiving her BA, she moved to Minneapolis to attend graduate school in Sociology at the University of Minnesota, receiving her PhD in August 2008. During graduate school, Trina taught at a variety of institutions in the Twin Cities. Furthermore, she also had the privilege of both conducting research and attending meetings at the United Nations as a representative of Sociologists for Women in Society. Trina's dissertation examined gender and globalization issues through assessing international organization's advocacy regarding reproductive rights issues and diverse women. She has also done research on diversity in neighborhoods through the American Mosaic Project at the University of Minnesota. Her research interests include gender, globalization, neighborhoods, and women's health. She lives in Minneapolis in a big old house with her husband, daughter, and too many pets to list.
