Truth Values: One Girl's Romp Through MIT's Male Math Maze Performed by Gioia De Cari
Tuesday, May 8th at 7pm in Kelsey Theater
Decription of the show: Created as a response to former Harvard President Lawrence Summers' now infamous suggestion that women are less represented than men in the sciences because of innate gender differences, Truth Values: One Girl's Romp Through M.I.T.'s Male Math Maze is a true-life tale that offers a humorous, scathing, insightful and ultimately uplifting look at the challenges of being a professional woman in a male-dominated field. Performed barefoot on a bare stage with only a chair and small table, writer/performer and "recovering mathematician" Gioia De Cari brings to life more than 30 characters in a hilarious and deeply touching performance that has earned raves from critics and stirred audiences to standing ovations.

Serendipity
Alec Noll '13 pulled this pretzel out of a bag as is. Lay people might think it looks like the letter B, but mathematicians will recognize it as the symbol for the real numbers (a number field Alec happened to be studying at the time in his Abstract Algebra course). Serendipitously, Alec was wearing a perfect t-shirt at the time. Thanks to Mike Taufen '15, a picture was snapped before Alec ate his lunch.

All sections of Calculus II and Honors Calculus II (Math 126 and 128) will use Stewart's Calculus, Early Transcendentals, 7th ed. All sections of Linear Algebra (Math 220) will use a textbook TBA.
