My name is Whitney White and I'm a member of the Prairie Island Indian Community. I was born in Red Wing, Minnesota but I've grown up on the Island my entire life. I gratuated from Red Wing High School in 2005, and I'm soon to be graduating from St. Olaf College with a degree in Native American Studies. I plan to continue taking the Dakota Language next year at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities campus. Then the following year I plan to apply to grad school at the U of M. I'm grateful for a program like CIS because otherwise I wouldn't have been able to narrow my major to a particular group. I hope to work in a museum later on or even teach because I feel it's important to convey an Indigenous perspective on issues like history, for example.
