Discussing the Industry

Check back often for interviews with proven and successful individuals in the sports journalism industry.

Steve Aschburner: At the time of this interview, Aschburner was in his 13 season covering the Minnesota Timberwolves for the Minneapolis Star Tribune. He has served as president or vice president of the Professional Basketball Writers Association of America since 1995. Two years ago, Aschburner accepted a buyout from the Star Tribune and currently is a freelance contributor for Sports Illustrated (cnnsi.com). Just that fact is ironic -- the buyout of a newspaper job and a gain of a job related to "new media" -- given our discussion.

Brit Robson: Widely respected as the Twin Cities' most influential NBA writer, Robson is as technical and interesting as they come. Robson's primary forum is his blog, at the time of this interview City Pages, and currently the Rake. We discuss how new media has influenced his career, and the advantages and disadvantages of the cultural phenomenon we are getting to know: blogging.

Steve Bunin: The definition of perservance, Steve Bunin served as sports anchor and director at five different local network affiliates before landing a job at ESPN. Bunin hosts the Hot List on ESPNNews, and has hosted ESPN's Euro's coverage, Outside the Lines, MLS Primetime Thursday on ESPN2, ESPN Radio's Gamenight, among others. Bunin was kind enough to join me for a discussion on the current sports media landscape, and how the industry has progressed to affect his post at ESPN.
