UW-Eau Claire shuts out Ole women

EAU CLAIRE, Wis.- UW-Eau Claire's Gina Williams scored a second half goal to propel the Blugolds to a 1-0 win over the St. Olaf women's soccer team on Wednesday afternoon at Bollinger Field.
After a scoreless first half, Williams scored her team-high 14th goal at the 56:21 mark and the Blugolds held the Oles off the board for the rest of the game to claim the win. Williams' goal was unassisted.
St. Olaf and UW-Eau Claire each registered 13 shots for the game but the Oles were unable to get anything by Nina Behrenbrinker in the Blugold's net. Behrenbrinker made seven saves to earn the shutout win. Nora Forbes made nine saves for the Oles but took the loss.
Madison Van Wylen led St. Olaf with four shots, including a 75th minute shot that hit the post. Amanda Leone added three shots. Williams led UW-Eau Claire with three shots, while Katie Richter and Tara Dennehy each had two.
UW-Eau Claire was ranked No. 6 in the October 2nd NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division III Women's Northern Poll. The Blugolds improve to 7-4-1 overall this spring. The Oles fall to 5-5-1 overall and are in the thick of the MIAC playoff race at 3-2 in the conference.
St. Olaf now returns to MIAC play with a couple big home games. The Oles host St. Thomas (4-5, 3-2 MIAC) on Saturday before Augsburg (8-3, 3-2 MIAC) comes to town on October 9. Both games will be streamed live online.
