Women's soccer dealt second straight 1-0 loss
September 25, 2012
ST. PAUL, Minn.- The St. Olaf women's soccer team managed just four shots in a 1-0 loss, the second straight 1-0 defeat for the team, at Hamline on Tuesday afternoon.
The lone goal of the game came in the 82nd minute courtesy of Jordan Sammons. Sammons deflected in a free-kick by Aileen Scheibner, the reigning MIAC Women's Soccer Athlete of the Week, for her fourth goal of the season.
The Pipers outshot the Oles 14-4, as St. Olaf mustered only two shots on goal compared to 10 for Hamline. Nora Forbes made nine saves in a losing effort for the Oles, while Molly Jacobs earned the win by making two saves for the Pipers.
Sammons, Brienne Garside, and Kelsey Caracciolo all had two shots for the hosts, while Kajsa Brindley and Amanda Leone had the lone shots on goal for the Oles. The four shots for St. Olaf were a season low.
It was the second straight game where the Oles failed to find the back of the net. St. Olaf has not scored more than two goals in a game this year but has not allowed more than one in any game. The Oles have scored eight goals and surrendered five in their nine games.
The win was Hamline's first in the conference this season (1-2-1 MIAC) and the team is 6-2-1 overall. St. Olaf now has an even 2-2-0 mark in the conference and is 4-4-1 overall. The Oles travel to St. Joseph on Saturday to face St. Ben's (3-2-2, 2-1-0 MIAC) as they look to rebound from two straight tough losses.
